A trip on the local “vélo-rail” - a sort of bicycle-operated railway handcar – will give you all the appetite you need to savour the oysters, prawns and sole provided generous waters of the Atlantic, never far away in Vendée.

The Puy du Fou theme park, set in a hundred-year-old forest, offers great shows to take you back in time in a stunning natural environment. Don’t miss the Cinéscénie son et lumière spectacular two nights a week (29km).
Just a 30 minute drive away, you can stroll through the narrow, flower-decked streets of Trentemoult amongst the beautifully preserved sailors’ houses. Then take a boat over the River Loire to Nantes where you can marvel at the amazing “Machines de l’Ile” and even take a tour of the old docks on the back of a 12m-high mechanical elephant. A fascinating and inexpensive trip back into Nantes’ industrial past.
Puy du Fou | If you fancy the chance to explore a medieval village and see the legendary Puy du Fou theme park for yourself, then book a stay at the Lac de la Chausselière close to the Château de Tiffauges. Use your holiday to travel back in time to the world of the Vikings or the days of the Three Musketeers – all just a 25-minute drive from the campsite. You’ll also find that a gentle bike ride around the campsite makes a great way of exploring 21st century Vendée.
