Take a trip on the Sainte-Baume “vélorail”, a sort of bicycle-operated handcar running along a lovely disused railway line where you can become the driver of your own “pedal train” for two hours.
The Grotte de la Sainte-Baume – a two hour walk through the Massif de la Sainte-Baume brings you of the entrance to the Grotte Marie Madeleine. The esplanade provides a magnificent view point overlooking “Provence Verte”.
Visit the Basilique Sainte Marie-Madeleine and the Royal Convent at Saint-Maximin. A veritable tomb of Christianity, the basilica holds the relics of Sainte Marie-Madeleine. Opposite the basilica you can also visit the Royal Convent, today transformed into a hotel.
Explore the many vineyards and wine cellars in and around Saint-Maximin and sample the wines of Provence: white, red or rosé (allow one hour per vineyard).
Take a trip to the village of Tourves where you can visit both the Musée des Gueules Rouges in Tourves, which retraces the history of bauxite mining in the Var, and the Safranière du Mirandolier where you can sample a range of saffron-based products and other aromatic plants.
