Just 15 minutes’ walk from the historic centre of Saumur with its rich, year-round programme of cultural and artistic events, you’re also ideally placed to visit the château, one of the most emblematic in the Loire valley, or marvel at the riders of the famous Cadre Noir.

Château de Brézé, Europe’s biggest underground fortress.
The village of Turquant with its remarkable underground arts centre, mushroom caves and cavernous subterranean galleries Don’t miss the local delicacy of “pommes tapées”, traditionally dried applies. A walk through the vineyards of the Domaine Champigny followed by a wine tasting.
Le Cadre Noir de Saumur : The French National Riding School gives public demonstrations showcasing the skills of its riders and horses. Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, 18 km from Saumur. An impressive monastery established at the start of the C12 century, the royal abbey at Fontevraud is one of the largest in Europe. Located in the Loire Valley 15 km from Saumur, the Zoo de Doué Biopark houses a remarkable collection of animals focussing on the protection of endangered species.
Walk or cycle along the banks of the River Loire on the many kilometres of cycle paths.
To fully understand the nuances of the local wine, Saumur-Champigny, you need to understand the land which produces it and the history and culture of the local winegrowing industry . The local tourist office runs 2-hour guided tours of the Saumur-Champigny wine-growing area with a guide accredited by the wine growers themselves. Every tour culminates at one of the many local producers with a chance to taste the local wines.
At the Ile d’Offard on the banks of the River Loire you’ll find the campsite's staff ready to help you make the most of your holiday with a tour of the AOC Coteaux de Saumur vineyards and some great bike rides. A 24km cycle route (leaving from close to the Tourist Office just five minutes from the site) will take you through the magnificent countryside of the Hameau de Samoussais. The campsite also provides a secure room for storing bicycles and accommodation suitable for cycle tourists (Camp'étoile). It has been an “Accueil Vélo” campsite since 2016.
Located close to the gardens at Villandry and the Château de Saumur, the Ile d’Offard’s wellness centre makes a great place to relax and get away from it all. Combine rest and physical activity with our range of facilities including a hammam, jacuzzi and sauna.
