The Musée des Traditions Landaises – learn about local customs and how the landscape has been fashioned and maintained by man. Take a boat ride along the canals which connect the local lakes to find out how they and the surrounding dunes were formed, how resin is harvested and a host of other farming and craft techniques.
Visit the Musée de l'Hydraviation and go up in a seaplane at Latécoère air base. Trace the history of the seaplane from the first flight in 1910 to the present day. Over the years, the Lac de Biscarrosse has seen over 120 seaplanes take off for destinations such as New York and Fort de France on the island of Martinique. Seaplane flights.
Enjoy a picnic on the beach as you watch the sun set over the Atlantic at the Dune du Pyla with its sand dunes and pine forests.
From the campsite, follow the cycle path which runs for 6km along the banks of the Lac Nord de Biscarrosse (suitable for all levels). Stop at Maguide and spend some time in the Aquapark or enjoy an aperitif and some tapas on the shores of the lake. Experienced cyclists can continue to Biscarrosse Plage and take a dip in the Atlantic amongst the pines.
Take a trip out to the famed, 112-metre high natural Dune du Pyla, just 25km from the campsite, with its unobstructed views of the Arguin sandbank and the Cap Ferret headland. Stop off for lunch in one of the oyster huts on the Bassin d’Arcachon and sample the local seafood. And don’t miss Arcachon with its lovely “summer” and “winter” towns.
